Lloyds IT plan attacked
UNIONS have attacked plans to move 1,500 Lloyds workers to computer giant IBM – with fears the jobs could go to India.
The £1.3bn outsourcing deal will see IBM take over running some of the bank’s IT systems. A total of 1,000 contractors will be moved across to work for IBM, and another 500 Lloyds employees will also join it. Insiders at the bank claimed that workers would still be based in the same offices as before and their day-to-day jobs would not change much.
However, unions slammed the plans and warned that the positions could go abroad. Bank sources dismissed this as speculation.
