TOULON KIDS HOPING TO KICK OFF FAMOUS DOUBLE

- By MARK WALKER

TEENAGE defender Alex Iacovitti is determined to complete the first half of what could be a famous double over the Auld Enemy by beating England in the Toulon Tournament today. The Nottingham Forest youngster is part of the Scotland Under-20s team who have stormed to the semi-finals of the competition for the first time in 23 years, beating Brazil en route. And the 19-year-old knows victory over their cross-border rivals in Fos-sur-Mer would not only be some achievement in itself, but the perfect inspiration for Gordon Strachan’s senior side. ‘I really want to win this tournament and make history,’ said Iacovitti. ‘I don’t want the Brazil win to be the highlight now we’ve got this far. England are a big team but if we execute the game plan like we did against Brazil then we have a good chance. It’s amazing this is happening just before the World Cup qualifier on Saturday. If we could both get the win it would be crazy back home, so hopefully we can do it for the people in Scotland.’ England are favourites against Scot Gemmill’s side but their resources have been stretched by also appearing in the Under-20s World Cup — where they play the semi-final against Italy today — and the Euro Under-19s Finals next month. Scotland, meanwhile, will be boosted by the return from injury of £13million RB Leipzig star Oliver Burke who Iacovitti believes could be key. ‘I think they will be frightened of him. He makes players nervous,’ he said. Meanwhile, boss Gemmill has urged his kids not to be overawed. ‘Playing the likes of Brazil and England is why we pushed so hard for this invitation,’ he said. ‘You have to handle the occasion and the players have shown they can be trusted to do that.’
