Is Ruth Davidson the saviour of the Tories?

-

THOUGH Ruth Davidson must be congratulated on her excellent General Election result in Scotland, I find it incomprehensible that she appears to be holding the Government to ransom over demands for a soft Brexit. Does she seriously intend to instruct Scottish Tory MPs to vote against the Government if her demands are not met? By doing this, she could open the door for Jeremy Corbyn to enter No 10. DAVID MORGAN, Shrewsbury, Shrops. IN A lacklustre General Election campaign, there was one shining light: Ruth Davidson. She led the Scottish conservatives to a fabulous result in a Westminster election from a standing start, thanks to her energy, determination, commitment and likeable personality. No wonder the bookies are tipping her as a future prime minister.

THE leader who emerges with most credit from the election is Ruth Davidson. Writen off, denigrated – but she got on with the job and delivered solid results. The lesson the Tories nationally should learn is that that a compassionate, human version of Conservatism appeals to voters. I don’t know if Ruth would ever consider a run at 10 Downing Street – but I’m sure she’d be a far better Prime Minister than Boris Johnson or George Osborne, both of whom seem to be the sort of person the Tory old guard favour.
