Lindsay nears £350k exit as Thistle snap up Spittal

- GEORGE GRANT

PARTICK THISTLE defender Liam Lindsay has travelled to england for talks with Oxford United.

The highly-rated 21-year-old centre-half has two years left on his current deal at Firhill, but is now free to discuss personal terms with the League One side after Thistle accepted a bid of around £350,000.

That fee could rise with performance-related add-ons and clauses for a player who scored seven goals last season and was voted into the PFA Scotland Premiership Team of the Year after helping Thistle to their highest top-flight finish since 1981.

Lindsay (pictured) had previously attracted interest from Leeds United, but it now appears that Oxford have won the race to secure his services. Thistle have, however, completed their first summer signings, with midfielder Blair Spittal joining on a two-year deal from Dundee United and goalkeeper Jamie Sneddon doing likewise from Cowdenbeath. ‘Blair is a player we have been monitoring for a long time, so we are delighted to finally sign him,’ said Jags boss Alan Archibald of the 21-year-old. ‘he is an exciting young player who will add a really strong, creative threat to our wide areas. ‘he showed really good form at the end of last season with United and we are keen for him to progress with us. ‘We have a really good group of lads and I definitely think he complements what is already here.’
