Son carried mother down 24 floors

-

A MOTHER was saved from the top floor of the burning building by her son who carried her down 24 flights of stairs.

Shekeb Neda, 24, a recent graduate, was hailed as a hero after he brought his disabled mother Flora through the smoke to safety.

His father Saber, 57, a taxi driver, told him to help his mother as he feared he would slow his son down, saying: ‘You have to get out.’

Mrs Neda, 55, suffers from a muscle disease and friends said she would not have made it out without her son’s help.

Both were taken to hospital, where Shekeb was said to be recovering. Mrs Neda has yet to regain consciousness and her husband is missing.

Family friend Fahim Muzhary, 62, told The Sun: ‘He [Shekeb] is a hero. In the chaos ... he picked up his mother and carried her down from the very top floor.

A grandmother and her middle-aged son were the latest people named as missing in the wake of the Grenfell Tower blaze.

Marjorie Vital, 67, and her son Ernie Vital, 43, had lived on the 16th floor of the building for more than 20 years.
