MEET THE... MUSONDAS

-

CHARLES...age 47

THE midfielder (pictured above, left, with Sampdoria’s Roberto Mancini) had a ten-year career with Anderlecht, playing in the 1990 European Cup Winners’ Cup final. He made a total of 48 appearances for Zambia and cheated death when the Belgian club insisted he remain in the country to recover from a knee injury instead of playing in a World Cup qualifier against Senegal in April 1993. The plane carrying the Zambian team plunged into the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Gabon, killing everyone on board.

LAMISHA...age 25

THE eldest of the three Musonda brothers signed for Chelsea from Anderlecht for a considerable fee in the summer of 2012. Lamisha is a speedy winger, who moved to Belgian side Mechelen on a free transfer in January 2014 after making only a handful of appearances for Chelsea’s Under-21 team.

TIKA...age 23

A POWERFUL centre-half who can also operate in midfield, Tika battled back from a serious knee injury and featured sporadically in Chelsea’s Under-21 team. His contract at Stamford Bridge expired on June 1 and he is now a free agent.

CHARLY...age 20

THE most gifted of the brothers, Anderlecht coach Johan Boskamp described a 15-year-old Charly as ‘a mixture between Xavi and Iniesta’. He turned down Barcelona to move to Stamford Bridge but ended up in La Liga when he went on loan for a year at Real Betis before returning to Chelsea in January. Described by Brendan Rodgers as a player ‘of substantial pedigree and quality’ it looks like his next stop is Celtic Park.
