Now Konta’s serving up ace muffins

-

ONLY hours before, she had wowed the British public with a glorious victory on Court One at Wimbledon.

But by the following morning, Johanna Konta had another challenge on her mind – cooking up the perfect muffins for her team.

Miss Konta, Britain’s best hope of a woman winning Wimbledon since Virginia Wade in 1977, blended in easily as she shopped at a Waitrose in West London on Saturday evening.

The sports star was seen perusing the aisles for jam, flour and other ingredients before heading home to prepare a batch of muffins.

Miss Konta, 26, who will today take to Court One, yesterday described the final result as the ‘best muffins on tour’.

At the start of the tournament, she admitted she was using her team as ‘guinea pigs’ as she tried out her recipes in between games.

And after being seen handing out treats to her colleagues, she told a press conference: ‘It was the second time I have ever made muffins in my life.’ She joked that after a ‘positive’ reaction to the vanilla variety, she would whisk up chocolate chip muffins next. And yesterday, Miss Konta’s coaches gave her the seal of approval by uploading a picture of themselves ready to tuck in.

She has previously described herself as a foodie, telling reporters ahead of this year’s Wimbledon debut: ‘I’m pretty sure I spend just as much talking about food in my press conference as I do about tennis...’
