Queen’s first black equerry

-

A GHANAIAN-born officer in the Household Cavalry has made history after the Queen picked him for a top post in the royal household.

Major Nana Kofi Twumasi-Ankrah, 38, pictured, is believed to be HM’s first black equerry. Known as TA to his friends, the married father-oftwo served in the Afghanistan war.

When Prince Philip retires later this year, he will become one of the Queen’s most visible aides, assisting her at official engagements and greeting highprofile guests.

He moved to Britain with his parents in 1982, trained at Sandhurst and was an escort commander for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at their wedding in 2011. The major will take up his new role later this year when Wing Commander Sam Fletcher steps down.
