Taylor keen on historic castle clash with Burns
JOSH TAYLOR has set his sights on Ricky Burns after retaining his Commonwealth superlightweight title with a seventhround stoppage of Londoner Ohara Davies on Saturday night. The undefeated Edinburgh boxer wasted no time in calling out the ex-three-weight world champion in the aftermath of his tenth straight win. Burns, who witnessed the 26-year-old’s most impressive performance to date from ringside at the Braehead Arena where he was employed in the role of TV analyst, appears ready to grant Taylor his wish. Taylor, for his part, is keen to make history by fighting at Edinburgh Castle, while offering up some alternative venues if it proved impossible to stage a contest at the capital landmark. He said: ‘I’d love it at Edinburgh Castle, the SSE Hydro, Hampden or even Easter Road. ‘The Castle would be an iconic setting, but it would be a sellout anywhere because it would be a massive fight for Scotland and I think the fans deserve that. ‘When Davies was being talked about, Ricky said he wouldn’t entertain a fight with me as I needed to get past him first. ‘Well, I’ve done that and blown him away and, while I respect Ricky, I think the time has come for him to fight me.’ Burns responded: ‘I’m fighting in October but nothing is set in stone. If he wants to fight me, then make me an offer. ‘I think a fight with Josh is inevitable and it’s definitely going to happen at some point. It would draw a huge crowd, that’s for sure.’
