THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY…

BEST TRY:

The Lions’ opening try in the first Test was poetry in motion. Liam Williams countered from deep, Jonathan Davies and Elliot Daly raided down the left and Sean O’Brien finished it (right). Classic.

MATCH-DAY IRRITANT: BIGGEST HITS:

Ben Te’o flattened Sonny Bill Williams in the first Test and was unlucky to be penalised for the statement tackle. Sam Cane on Owen Farrell in Wellington was another monstrous shot.

UNLUCKIEST TOURIST:

Stuart Hogg. The Scotland full-back could have slotted into the Test side but was ruled out after being caught by the elbow of team-mate Conor Murray in the 12-3 win over Crusaders.

HAKA HIGHLIGHT:

New Zealand named their squad at an Auckland school and the first XV rugby players performed a rousing, impromptu war dance to honour the visiting Maori All Blacks head coach.

TOP ATMOSPHERE:

The second Test in Wellington (right). It was gloriously raucous and tribal. Eden Park doesn’t hold noise well but the place known as the ‘Cake Tin’ reverberated with chants of ‘Oh Maro Itoje’.

MAGIC MOMENT:

Beauden Barrett took everyone’s breath away in the series opener when he chased a loose pass and — under pressure — swooped to scoop it up one-handed. Sheer, brilliant skill.

SO NEAR, BUT SO FAR:

Tomas Francis, one of the so-called ‘geography six’, was brought to the touchline several times in the Hurricanes game but was held back, meaning no official Lions number.

MOST ENGAGING LIONS:

Sam Warburton — the captain who reinforced his credentials as a passionate ambassador. Kyle Sinckler — the rookie English prop who was so clearly just living his dream.

BRAVE OFFICIATING AWARD:

Jerome Garces. The French referee stuck to his conviction that Sonny Bill Williams had to be sent off in Wellington, when his assistants and the TMO told him to reconsider.
