Celtic vows action over fans’ insult to Lee Rigby
FOOTBALL fans who were filmed singing an offensive song about murdered soldier Lee Rigby will face action, Celtic has vowed.
The club said it was ‘appalled’ by the video showing men in the team’s strips apparently celebrating the death of the 25-year-old.
Fusilier Rigby’s mother has condemned the people in the footage and said her family was ‘hurt’ and ‘devastated’ by the incident.
The soldier was murdered by Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale outside Woolwich Barracks in London in 2013.
Celtic were playing a friendly on Saturday in Sunderland, where it is thought the video was filmed.
Yesterday, Fusilier Rigby’s mother Lyn said: ‘The thugs who smear Lee’s good name will never be half the man my son was.’
A statement from Celtic said: ‘Such behaviour in no way represents Celtic Football Club or our supporters.
‘In the event that any individuals are identified as being responsible, Celtic will take the strongest possible action.’
