Jackson insists he can add to Warriors

- By ROB ROBERTSON

RUARIDH JACKSON is confident he returns to Glasgow Warriors a better player than the one who left for the English Premiership three years ago. The Scotland international signed on a one-year deal yesterday for a second stint at Scotstoun following low-key spells at both Wasps and Harlequins. The versatile 29-year-old is able to play fly-half and full-back, and will provide experienced cover for Finn Russell and Stuart Hogg, with the latter ruled out for the first few months of the season at least. Jackson, who has been capped 31 times by his country, was a fans’ favourite at Glasgow for six years before he left to join Wasps in 2014 and then transferred to Harlequins at the start of last season. Now, he is hoping to impress under new Warriors head coach Dave Rennie. ‘I still see myself as a No 10 but I am happy to play either there or at full-back,’ said Jackson (below). ‘Playing in England has been a good experience and one that has made me a better and more rounded player. ‘I enjoyed working under Jason O’Halloran when he was with Scotland, so I’m looking forward to striking up that relationship again with both of us now at Glasgow. ‘Also, I’m really excited to see how Dave Rennie operates. ‘I’ve obviously got a few good friends still at the club, but a lot of young boys have come through over the last few years, so it’s a bit different on the playing side now. ‘It’s a really exciting time to be rejoining, with the new Guinness Pro14 and all it holds, so I’m looking forward to getting back to Glasgow.’ Glasgow Warriors assistant coach O’Halloran insisted Jackson’s experience will be vital in the new season. ‘Ruaridh is an experienced player who will add to the competition we already have within our squad,’ he said. ‘He knows the club well from his previous time here and can play in a number of positions in the back line.’
