MILLER HAS EYE ON THE FIRST TEAM
ANTHONY RALSTON’S Champions League baptism of fire has given 19-year-old Calvin Miller encouragement that the pathway remains open to Brendan Rodgers’ first team. Left-back Miller put in a solid performance in the Parkhead Under-19s’ 3-2 loss to their Paris Saint-Germain counterparts on Tuesday. Later that same evening, after seeing 18-year-old Ralston square up to Neymar and Co for the senior side, Miller says it gives hope to the rest of the club’s youngsters that Rodgers will take a chance on them. ‘It’s brilliant. Me and Tony have been training with the first team every day, and it just shows you the manager trusts the young ones,’ said Miller. ‘Tony is the same as me, he’s nice and aggressive — and he works hard. ‘The aim at this level is to get your fitness up, get that sharpness and show you can play. Hopefully, I’ll get another opportunity soon. Miller made his debut for the first team on December 2016 in a 1-0 win over Partick Thistle and played against Kilmarnock in the League Cup and Premiership in August. ‘I’ve not played a game since Killie a month ago, so I feel like I needed that (U-19s) game to keep up my fitness. I’m happy with how I played although a wee bit disappointed with the result.’ Since linking up with the first team, Miller’s position has changed from winger to left-back. ‘It was December last year I got put in against Man City because we never had a left-back, and the gaffer liked me there.’
