Gordon is bothered by Sutton negativity

- By JOHN McGARRY

CRAIG GORDON has accused former Celtic striker Chris Sutton of waging a campaign of negativity against him. The 34-year-old goalkeeper has bounced back from being omitted from Brendan Rodgers’ side a year ago to re-establish himself as first pick for both club and country. But Gordon believes that no matter what he does, he simply cannot win in the eyes of the man who now earns a living as a BT Sport pundit. ‘It’s his opinion,’ Gordon said. ‘But he focuses rather a lot on the negatives, rather than anything positive. It’s more of a campaign. ‘He had his mind made up very early on. He is trying to make everything fit his early statements. That’s his job as a pundit. ‘My record against any other Celtic goalkeeper would stand up in terms of wins. The last time I lost a domestic game was against Aberdeen about a year-and-a-half ago. ‘I think he goes over the top at times and I know I’m not the only one to perceive that. ‘There are other guys in

our squad who receive as much, if not more, criticism than me. I’m not sure if it’s a personal thing, but it seems to be.’ Asked if he felt meeting the former Parkhead striker face to face to thrash out their differences might help, Gordon replied: ‘Not really. I don’t think that would make any difference. He’s got his opinions. I just think it tends to send the signals out to the Celtic fans. It’s a little bit unfair.’ Gordon pulled off an early contender for save of the season against Ross County on Saturday. Scampering back to his goal as Davis Keillor-Dunn prepared to halve a 2-0 deficit from a rebound, the keeper earned a standing ovation for a stunning tip over the bar. Ahead of BT Sport’s coverage of Celtic’s trip to Dens Park tonight, Gordon, however, does not anticipate any words of praise from Sutton. ‘No, I wouldn’t,’ he said. ‘That’s one save. It’s over the course of a season and how I’ve played for Celtic overall (that should be scrutinised). ‘This is now my fourth season. I don’t agree with an awful lot of what he says but I suppose that’s the case for half the players in Scottish football. I’m not alone.’
