Dimbleby takes a secret honeymoon 17 years late!

-

Friends of david dimbleby have noticed a new spring in the veteran broadcaster’s step. At 78, he is full of the joys of young love after he slipped away for a secret honeymoon with his wife Belinda — 17 years after they got married.

‘They were too busy to have a honeymoon after their wedding in 2000 and have now renewed their marriage vows,’ says a friend. ‘They’ve both had their wedding rings engraved inside with a quote from John donne.’

BBC1 Question Time presenter dimbleby is famously reticent about his private life and declines to elaborate on this latest romantic twist. in 1993 he left Josceline, his cookerywriter first wife, after an affair of several years standing with Belinda Giles, a television producer 20 years his junior and wife of society photographer Christopher sykes.

He broke the news of his affair to Josceline just before they were due to go to Venice to celebrate their silver wedding anniversary. They still went — for what must have been a very doleful weekend.

With Josceline, he has three children: Liza, an artist, Henry, who founded the fast-food chain Leon, and Kate, a jazz singer.

After their separation Josceline had a relationship with foreign correspondent Jon swain and later Johnnie Culme-seymour.

dimbleby, who has covered every general election since 1979, as well as major events such as Princess diana’s funeral, lives on a farm in east sussex with Belinda and their son Fred, 19, who is a student at Oxford University. The dimbleby dynasty also includes david’s younger brother Jonathan, host of BBC radio 4’s Any Questions?

dimbleby seems to be living his life in reverse like F scott Fitgerald’s character Benjamin Button.

At 75 he made headlines after having a scorpion inked on to his shoulder. What next for the rejuvenated grand inquistor?
