When’s the horse of the year show on?

-

PLAYING with squeaky toys and running with the pack sounds like typical behaviour for any farm dog.

But Wee Bob is not a canine but a 32in-tall Shetland pony whose antics include letting himself into his owner Stacey Johnstone’s home, raiding cupboards... and watching television.

He seeks comfort from the fire on cold winter days and joins the family pets for play-time.

Miss Johnstone, 26, who lives with her partner Callum Woods and her parents and grandparents, says Wee Bob taught himself how to jiggle the latch on the door with his chin to let himself in.

The 17-year-old pony was known to rummage through the kitchen units but the family of six have since moved the fruit bowl and food into higher cupboards at Sproulstoun Farm, Howwood, in Renfrewshire.

‘He’s part of the family,’ said Miss Johnstone. ‘He’s pretty much one of the dogs to be honest. We’ve got five dogs and he just thinks he’s one of them. He picks up their toys and squeaks them. He grooms the dogs and they just stand there and take it.’
