IT LOOKS LIKE LOVE!

Harry and Meghan in first public appearance together

- From Rebecca English Royal Correspondent in Toronto

IT was love-all last night as Prince Harry and his girlfriend Meghan Markle arrived hand in hand to watch tennis.

And for the couple’s first official appearance together, the American actress wore a £137 white top – named The Husband.

She teamed the shirt, made by her friend and designer Misha Nonoo, with ripped jeans and pointed £380 Sarah Flint flats.

Looking cool in the 86F (30C) heat of Toronto, Canada, she accessorised her outfit with a thin gold bracelet, rings and sunglasses as well as work-like brown shoulder bag.

She couldn’t take her eyes off Harry, who wore a similar pair of shades and a polo shirt with the logo of his Invictus Games for injured service personnel.

Although they both attended the opening of the games on Saturday, they took care not to be pictured together. It is thought that Harry, 33, who was accompanied by US first lady Melania Trump and Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau, felt his official duties should come first.

But, in the words of one well-placed source, he knew it would look ‘weird’ if Miss Markle, 36, who lives in the city when filming the legal drama Suits, did not attend by his side at some point.

Besides, they said, he is proud of what he has achieved with Invictus, the Paralympic-style event that he created in 2014, and wanted his girlfriend to see it first-hand.

Their appearance together last night sets the seal on a romance that many predict will lead to an engagement announcement by the end of the year.

Word that the couple were attending had begun to circulate when journalists noticed the prince’s private secretary, Ed Lane Fox, busily preparing two seats courtside and looking agitated.

The couple swept in at 1.55pm local time amid minimal fanfare and took their seats quietly. Unlike his brother William, who shies away from public displays of affection, Harry was proudly holding his girlfriend’s hand and gently ushered her to her seat, whispering affectionately. Divorcee Miss Markle appeared unconcerned by the cameras watching her every move as she enjoyed the wheelchair tennis, smiling and laughing with her royal beau.

Both clapped warmly at the end of each game, played between teams from Australia and New Zealand, and Harry frequently leaned in to explain the rules of the sport.

They stayed for around half an hour, chatting to some of the other families courtside for five to ten minutes afterwards, before – fingers entwined again – they left quietly and got into a waiting blacked-out vehicle.

Kylie Lawler and her sons Oliver and Bailey, aged nine and eight, sat with the couple while Mrs Lawler’s husband Sean played in the match for Australia.

Mrs Lawler said: ‘They seemed at home with each other, very easy to talk to. She said hi. She was excited to be here and lovely. He’s just a normal person, the most down-to-earth.’ Her sons gave their mascots of koala toys to Harry and Meghan to take home.

Olivia Kornal, 16, from New Zealand, who was cheering on her stepfather Glenn Barnes, said: ‘They were absolutely lovely. We knew he was coming but we didn’t know about Meghan. It was amazing because I’m a huge Suits fan!’

The pair have been dating for 14 months after being introduced by a mutual friend in London and have previously done their best to stay out of the limelight.
