Britons warned of French fuel strike

-

BRITONS driving in France can expect fuel shortages today because of strikes by lorry drivers.

Trade unions opposed to employment reforms from President Emmanuel Macron’s ministers started blocking fuel depots and major roads at dawn yesterday. By midday there were huge jams with petrol pumps running dry, especially close to the Channel ports.

The lorry drivers, who say they will keep protesting, fear new labour laws will lead to job losses and end their early retirement schemes. Mr Macron wants to limit the influence unions have on negotiating pay and conditions.
