REVAMP YOUR JEWELLERY

- ANNA PURSGLOVE

REUSE OLD JEWELS

IF A piece of jewellery holds painful memories, why not consider repurposing it?

Stones from an unwanted engagement or wedding ring, for example, can be reset into something entirely different — create an original design without the hefty price tag.

To find a good designer you can trust, try using the search tool on the Guild of Jewellery Designers website (jewellery designersuk.co.uk).

HUNT HIDDEN TREASURE

COSTUME jewellery dates quickly and gets cast aside without a second thought, but perhaps there’s something languishing in your drawer that’s back in style this season.

Look out in particular for keyshaped charms (a big trend for autumn/winter), anything with crystals and also pieces with a homespun aesthetic (shells and porcelain in particular).

WATCH YOUR STRAP

THIS is a great time of year to revive your watch — and all you have to do is change the strap.

If the leather is discoloured, why not swap it for a burgundy or even a bright red strap for an autumnal look?

POLISH THAT SILVER

SILVER jewellery can look sad and dirty if it tarnishes.

For mild tarnishing, a few drop of washing up liquid with warm water will bring back its lustre. Rinse and buff dry. Treat more serious tarnish with a paste of three-parts baking soda to one-part water. Apply with a soft cloth to prevent scratches. Rinse and buff dry.
