BEFRIEND BOTOX

I WORK with young women — which encourages me to stay on top of my game! I love a fresh-faced look and can’t stand frown lines. This led me to try Botox three years ago, after a friend recommended her doctor. Since then, I’ve had it four times in my forehead and between my brows. I top it up when necessary: more often if I’m going through a busy time at work.

FEMININE FRINGE

I’VE had a fringe since I turned 50. I think it is one of the most youthful, feminine looks — especially when you reach mid-life. My own cut is inspired by Goldie Hawn: a longer, sidesweeping fringe, to flatter my heartshaped face. The upkeep is crucial, so I get a weekly blow-dry, then cut and colour every three months.

EVENING WEAR RULES

I LOVE dressing up, but there is no point competing with someone younger. From my 30-year career dressing the female body, I’ve learned the key is confidence. If you have any hang-ups, cover them. After 50, go for sleeves, avoid strapless dresses and try an ‘illusion back’, where the dress is backless, but uses a layer of sheer fabric (such as tulle) to disguise wrinkles.

PACK YOUR OWN PILLOW

LACK of sleep is terribly ageing, so I always invest in good quality bedding. I have to travel for work, so since finding the perfect goose down pillow from Harrods, I take it everywhere. If I’m jet-lagged or stressed, I will have a hot stone massage. These are heavenly and work wonders to ease tension in the muscles and joints.

80:20 RULE

I WOULD never go out without feeling comfortable in myself — you never know who you might bump into! But you don’t have to spend a fortune. You can create elegant looks by mixing High Street and designer. I have an 80:20 balance of both in my wardrobe. A signature outfit is a white T-shirt and TK Maxx jeans, with designer heels. Shoes are my weakness — I spent £650 on my favourite Valentino’s.
