I’m more worried about my daughter driving than being model at 16, says Cindy Crawford

SHE has come under fire for letting her daughter become a model at the age of 16.

But Cindy Crawford is more concerned about Kaia Gerber driving a car than strutting down a catwalk.

The 51-year-old supermodel was responding to criticism that a responsible mother with experience of the fashion industry would not let her daughter follow in her footsteps at such a young age.

Miss Gerber made her catwalk debut at New York Fashion Week last month just a few days after turning 16 – the legal limit – and has since been pictured modelling in a string of fashion shows. But Miss Crawford, whose son Presley, 18, is also a model, said: ‘My daughter just got her driver’s licence. I’m a lot more concerned about her driving by herself than her entering the world of modelling.’

But she admitted: ‘In some ways, I wish I could have pushed it off a year or two. But she’s 16. That’s how old I was when I started, which is young, but in fashion that’s kind of the normal age when people start.’ Miss Crawford and her daughter came together during a runway tribute for the late Gianni Versace at Milan Fashion Week in September. The tribute saw nineties supermodels Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell and Miss Crawford feature alongside the next generation of models including Gigi and Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner and Miss Gerber. Kaia posted an image of herself with her licence after passing her test last month. Her mother commented: ‘We’ve got a licensed driver on our hands (STAY OFF THE ROAD).’
