SCOTS BOXER HOSPITALISED AFTER FIGHT
SCOTS boxer Gary Murray remains in a ‘stable condition’ after his bout with Irishman Patrick Gallagher was stopped in the tenth round at Meadowbank Sports Centre last Friday night. The 30-year-old welterweight from Coatbridge (below) was taken to hospital after doctors discovered an injury requiring immediate attention. Promoters MTK Scotland said in a statement on Twitter: ‘Gary remains in hospital with his family. He is in a stable condition and we shall provide further updates when we can. ‘We ask that everyone keeps Gary in their thoughts at this time.’ Murray’s bout — his first defeat — was on the undercard of fellow Scot Gary Cornish’s loss to Englishman Sam Sexton, who took the British heavyweight title. Meanwhile, Ricky Burns insists he wants to mark his 50th bout with a rematch against Anthony Crolla in Glasgow. The Scot, who has won world titles in three weight divisions, suffered a seventh career defeat in a unanimous points loss to Crolla in Manchester on Saturday but claims he has no intention of retiring at 34. Victory has enhanced Crolla’s aspirations of becoming a world-title contender again but promoter Eddie Hearn reckons the former WBA lightweight champion could opt for a lucrative payday north of the border instead. Burns said: ‘One hundred per cent, I would fancy another fight in Glasgow. ‘When this fight was talked about, we agreed to everything they wanted — even moving down to lightweight. So let’s get it back at the Hydro.’
