Britannia, still the hotel you should avoid

-

With stained carpets, lumpy beds and an ‘air of neglect’, hotel chain Britannia has been rated the nation’s worst for a fifth year running.

the hotel firm scored poorly in cleanliness, value for money, and customer service in the survey by consumer magazine Which?

An inspector who visited one ‘run-down’ hotel found a cracked bathroom sink, lumpy mattress and soiled carpets.

the survey, which took in responses from more than 4,000 people, saw Britannia hotels fail to score higher than two stars in any category – from bed comfort to cleanliness.

the budget chain, which has 53 hotels across the UK and charges an average of £78 a night, was judged worst among large hotel chains with a score of 33 per cent.

At the other end of the scale, Premier inn topped the survey with a 79 per cent approval score. it finished significantly higher than rival travelodge, which was given an overall score of 58 per cent – placing it in the bottom half of the table

ibis Budget finished second with a score of 71 per cent, while Radisson Blu, Crowne Plaza and Macdonald hotels shared third place on 70 per cent.

Which? spokesman Alex Neill said: ‘After five years at the bottom of our survey, Britannia shows no signs of improving the poor experience it offers guests.’ Britannia was contacted for comment.
