My private jet! Budget f lyer gets a whole plane to herself

- By Kirsty Stewart

A PRIVATE plane is usually a luxury reserved for millionaires – but Karon Grieve paid only £46 for hers.

The 57-year-old author booked a Jet2 flight from Glasgow to Crete and found she was the only passenger on the 189-seat aircraft.

Miss Grieve, from Dunlop, Ayrshire, was told at check-in that only three people were booked on the end-of-season trip.

And when the other two failed to show up, she was treated like an A-lister, with a free meal.

Speaking yesterday from Crete, where she is working on a romantic crime novel, she said: ‘When I went to the check-in desk we were actually having a joke about how many people were on the flight because last year when I was away there were only eight people on it.

‘The man at the desk asked me to guess, so we started this guessing game, starting at ten and working our way down...

‘It was just me, the cabin crew and the pilot. They moved me to seat number one so I had all the leg room and everything. It was fantastic.

‘The pilot then came out and chatted to me before take-off, and throughout the flight she would come over the Tannoy saying “Hi Karon and the girls”, telling us when to look out the window and what to look out for. It was so peaceful and I got a lot of work done. I didn’t even have to wait for my luggage – it just got handed to me when I got off the plane.

‘Funnily enough, the same plane going back was booked with 189 passengers heading back home.’

Last night, a spokesman for Jet2 said: ‘We’re delighted Karon got to experience our VIP customer service in style.

‘It is not unusual for the final outbound flight of the season to have fewer bookings than normal. We hope Karon has a fantastic time in Crete.’
