LEWANDOWSKI: ‘I AM FIT’

- JOHN McGARRY

ROBERT LEWANDOWSKI last night shrugged off a minor thigh concern to declare himself ready to face Celtic tomorrow. The prolific Pole limped off shortly after scoring for Bayern Munich in their 2-0 win against RB Leipzig on Saturday. But following tests yesterday, the striker has been given the all-clear to face Brendan Rodgers’ side in the second part of the Group B double-header. ‘I didn’t want to take any risks against Leipzig because I wanted to be ready for Glasgow,’ he said. ‘It was just like a spasm, but it wasn’t too bad. It was good for me to go off and get some rest before we go to Scotland.’ Now three points clear at the top of the Bundesliga after a revival under Jupp Heynckes, Bayern face second-placed Borussia Dortmund at the Westfalenstadion next weekend. But Lewandowski dismissed any notion Bayern’s immediate focus is on anything other than their trip to Glasgow. The 29-year-old said: ‘For me, the game in Glasgow against Celtic is just as important as our following match in Dortmund. We have to win.’ Meanwhile, Stuart Armstrong believes a supreme sense of self-confidence can steer Celtic to a shock victory. Despite losing by three unanswered goals to Bayern in the Allianz Arena less than a fortnight ago, Scotland star Armstrong insists Celtic Park can be the scene of a glorious triumph tomorrow night. ‘PSG are obviously a very good team who caused a lot of trouble here — and Bayern are equally a good team,’ conceded the midfielder. ‘But we certainly have the belief that we can go and get something. ‘We are under no illusions that they are a fantastic team but, without belief, you have nothing. So we have to believe that we can get something.’
