THIS IS WHAT 68 LOOKS LIKE

ElainE KingEtt lives in london and is single. She has three children, aged 28, 32 and 37. after a 30-year career in fashion, she runs writing, meditation and walking retreats.

GLAMOROUS HAIR

INVEST in your hair, not your face. I spend £150 twice a year at the George Northwood salon. It’s worth paying more for someone you trust — he’s cut hair for the likes of Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Alexa Chung. I’m lucky to not have gone grey, but I get the ends highlighted — a dark shade is draining in winter, without a tan.

KEEP A JOURNAL

I HAVE written a journal for 60 years. It’s vital for my wellbeing, as it helps to clarify my thoughts and plan how to move forward. A few lines or a list will do. I carry a notebook in my bag. Sometimes I read back to see how I dealt with situations. As I’ve got older, this has been a lifesaver, helping me handle the loss of my husband and my own experience of cancer.

HIKING ADVENTURES

IT IS vital to keep moving. I use a Fitbit Charge 2 (£109.99, argos.co.uk) so I hit the recommended 10,000 steps every day. It sends an alert if you’ve been sitting too long. I find the repetitiveness of walking so relaxing. When I turned 60, I did a ten-day trek in Morocco. I’ve since hiked mountains in Nepal, Greece and Spain, too.

POWER PEDICURE

EVERY six weeks, I have a pedicure. It’s an instant pick-me-up and so relaxing. Afterwards, I feel wonderful and my skin is super smooth. You’re never too old to have a bright colour on your toes — I always pick orange!

YOUTHFUL OUTLOOK

I GET frustrated when people put limitations on what they can do, so I avoid negative vocabulary, such as ‘now I’m a certain age’. Our attitude keeps us young: learn new skills, say yes to new experiences and spend time with people of all ages. I set up a business at 62, go to gigs with my children and do online dating. I shop where I want: Zara, Cos and & Other Stories. Fashion should be ageless.
