Teacher ‘used school PCs to view adult sites’

- By Sam Walker

A TEACHER who allegedly falsified exam records and accessed adult websites during class faces being struck off.

The name, gender and school where the teacher was working at the time of the alleged activities have not been made public.

The accusations include accessing ‘a variety of internet sites, including adult material websites’ on work computers during ‘class contact time’ – time spent actually working with pupils as opposed to marking or preparation.

The General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) has also accused the teacher of attempting to access adult material four times during a lunchtime period set aside by school bosses to help improve the staff member’s unsatisfactory performance.

And an independent panel, due to meet in Edinburgh on Monday, will be told that the teacher ‘acted dishonestly’ by falsifying records that showed pupils had sat prelim exams when they had not and also recorded incorrect grades for the exams.

According to the GTCS, the incidents happened in December 2013 and January 2014 while the teacher was employed by Glasgow City Council.

A schedule into the hearing said the charges include an accusation that the teacher took a worksheet made by a colleague without permission and used it in a lesson. The panel will consider the charges and the teacher could be struck off if they are found proved.

A notification of the hearing on the GTCS website states: ‘Between 5 December 2013 and 10 January 2014, you did misuse class contact time in that you did use work computers to access a variety of internet sites, including adult material websites which were unconnected with your work.

‘In light of the above, it is alleged that your fitness to teach is impaired and you are unfit to teach.’
