Queen oldest head of state

-

ROBERT Mugabe’s resignation at the age of 93 means the Queen is now the world’s oldest head of state.

Mugabe first topped the list when 90-year-old Shimon Peres stepped down as Israel’s president in 2014.

The Queen, 91, awarded Mugabe an honorary knighthood in 1994, but annulled it 12 years later following his murderous crackdown on opposition MPs.

The monarch is trailed in the list by 90-year-old Tunisian president Beji Caid Essebsi, Sheikh Sabah IV Ahmad AlJaber Al-Sabah, 88, the Emir of Kuwait, 86-year-old Cuban president Raul Castro and Cameroon president Paul Biya, 84.
