Shame of those tweeting jungle Z-listers

- By Alisha Rouse

THEY’RE the Z-listers who seek fame and fortune by signing up to eat a coffin-full of cockroaches in the name of entertainment.

But this year, some of the socalled stars of I’m A Celebrity have found their Twitter pasts catching up with them.

The show was yesterday thrown into chaos after three contestants were accused of making homophobic comments online.

Just three days into the series, Jack Maynard was forced to quit over alleged ‘inappropriate messages’ sent to a female fan. The 22-year-old ‘vlogger’ was also accused of posting ‘racist and homophobic’ messages.

Another two contestants also came under fire for making ‘homophobic’ comments online.

Boxer Amir Khan, 30, and Rebekah Vardy, 35, wife of footballer Jamie Vardy, were heavily criticised for comments they made in the past.

Mrs Vardy was last night facing calls for her to be kicked out for remarks she made in 2013 and 2014. In one message, she called a man a ‘ginger gay w ***** ’.

In tweets from 2010 and 2011, Khan used the word ‘gay’ as a derogatory term.

Maynard left the jungle and flew back to the UK yesterday. It is unknown what the ‘inappropriate’ messages said. He is now set to miss out on the show’s £25,000 fee, as he left within 72 hours.

In tweets sent in 2011 and 2012, Maynard used an offensive racial term and mocked gay men and people with facial disfigurements. A spokesman said he was ‘ashamed’ by the comments. A statement from his spokesman said: ‘Jack has been the subject of media stories which he has been unable to respond to. Since it is only fair that everyone should be aware of any allegations made against them and should also have the right to defend themselves, it was agreed it would be better to bring him out.’

ITV said: ‘Due to circumstances outside camp, Jack has had to withdraw from the show.’ Representatives for Khan and Mrs Vardy were approached for comment.
