Laptop seller thinks the UK mainland cuts off before Aberdeenshire

-

ANGUS Anderson, 9, from Dufftown, Moray, was drawn in by a retailer’s boast of ‘free delivery’, only to find his Aberdeen postcode excluded him.

Saveonlaptops.co.uk had plastered adverts for free delivery across its home page and individual products – but failed to make clear it was not available for all of ‘North Scotland’.

It was only as Mr Anderson finalised his order that the site informed him he had to pay a £9.99 surcharge on it.

‘They should have been more transparent,’ said Mr Anderson, an electrical engineer.

‘There was no disclaimer on the main page.’

‘I can’t see how I don’t qualify for free mainland delivery when I live just outside Aberdeen. Penzance must be at least as difficult to get to.

‘They seem to have redefined the UK mainland to not include North Scotland. Retailers are really lazy in allowing their shipping costs to be dictated by couriers.

‘They should be negotiating harder for a fair price for their customers.’

A spokesman for saveonlaptops.co.uk said: ‘Our system is tied into DPD. The advert on the products say “click here for delivery & collection info”.

‘If the customer clicked on that they would have seen that free delivery was not available to their address. We do give all the information on our website. The only other option is to list all the places we do not offer free delivery to on the home and product page.’

Mr Anderson said he is pleased the Scottish Daily Mail is spotlighting the issue.

He added: ‘Any exposure to address this has got to be a good thing. It’s gone on for far too long and we hope for change.’
