TRIBUTES have been paid to a promising footballer who died after a suspected drugs overdose following a Hogmanay party.

Witnesses said that paramedics tried to revive Mr Macleod for around an hour after being called to the scene in Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis on Monday afternoon.

Despite their efforts Mr Macleod, known as Jordy, was pronounced dead at Western Isles Hospital a short time later.

Police Scotland yesterday confirmed the death, which is believed to have involved the party drug ecstasy.

A statement released by Carloway FC described Mr Macleod as having a ‘massive impact’ at the club during his time as a member of the senior squad.

The tribute posted on Facebook read: ‘Everyone at Carloway Football Club would like to express their condolences to the family and friends of Jordan Macleod following his sad passing yesterday.
