Wilson wants new deal to secure Ibrox future

- MARK WILSON reports from Florida

DANNY WILSON insists he is eager to sign a new contract at Rangers and commit his future to the club.

Re-emerging as a key player since Graeme Murty replaced Pedro Caixinha in October, the 26-year-old’s existing deal expires at the end of this season.

Wilson is already eligible to speak to other interested parties but is

adamant his focus is solely on remaining at Ibrox. Speaking as Rangers continued their winter training camp in Florida, the centre-back said: ‘I really want to stay at Rangers. ‘I’m in the last six months of my contract now, so something will happen one way or another. But I hope it’s to stay at Rangers because I’m never happier than when I’m here playing games. ‘It’s a discussion that will hopefully be had in the near future. In the meantime, I just need to do the best I can for the rest of the season. Hopefully, it’ll take care of itself and I’ll not have to worry about it.’ Rangers have already moved to tie up teenage prospect Ross McCrorie on a long-term contract and invited David Bates’ representatives to begin discussions. Wilson’s camp are understood to be relaxed about their client’s situation. ‘Personally, I’d like it done sooner rather than later,’ added the player. ‘But we haven’t spoken about it too much as yet, so I’ll never take anything for granted. ‘But, hopefully, it’ll get sorted. As far as I’m concerned, I see my future at Rangers. ‘We’ve had a difficult period but, hopefully, we’re out the other side better for it. Hopefully, we can all move on together and I’ll be here contributing.’
