Dad ‘killed and buried by his daughter was a control freak’

- By Liz Hull and Nick Fagge

A PENSIONER allegedly murdered and buried in his garden by his daughter was a ‘domineering control freak’ who liked to humiliate her, it was claimed last night.

Police launched an investigation after Barbara Coombes, 63, walked into a police station and confessed to killing her ‘strict disciplinarian’ father Kenneth.

The former factory worker was arrested on suspicion of murder and officers confirmed human remains had been found in the garden of her modest semi in Stockport, Greater Manchester.

Yesterday Mrs Coombes’s ex-husband, Bill, 63, revealed she was suffering from stomach cancer.

Mr Coombes, a former bricklayer who has a daughter, Islay, 29, with his ex-wife from their seven-year marriage, told MailOnline that his former father-in-law could be ‘domineering.’

He said police had told him that Mrs Coombes’ father was allegedly killed more than 12 years ago. He would have been 87 when he died in 2005.

Other relatives described the ex-soldier, who served as a bombardier in the Royal Regiment of Artillery in the Second World War, as ‘difficult’.

Mr Coombes, who took his wife’s name after they married, said: ‘He was a domineering man, a real control freak. He liked to humiliate people and make them feel small and that included Barbara and Islay.’ Mrs Coombes remained in custody last night.
