I had cancerous growth on my lip, reveals Fonda
JANE Fonda has revealed she had a cancerous growth removed from her lower lip.
The 80-year-old actress wore two plasters as she promoted the new series of her Netflix comedy drama Grace and Frankie in New York.
Pointing at her mouth, she said: ‘I just want to explain the bandage. I just had a cancer taken from my lip. I thought it was going to heal in time before I came before you, but it’s fine. I don’t normally go around like this.’
Laughing it off she added: ‘The world is falling apart. What’s a lip, right?’ When the issue of her prognosis was raised she replied: ‘Yeah, they did [biopsy it]. I’m going to be fine, thanks.’
It is likely to have been a basalcell carcinoma, the most common type of skin cancer.
In 2010, she had a lumpectomy after a mammogram. She said at the time: ‘I am so lucky. We got it early and it was non-invasive.’
Famed for 1980s workout videos, Miss Fonda still keeps fit and on December 29 posted a picture of herself in the gym. It was captioned: ‘Not waiting for the New Year to get fit.’
