Quiz student takes a bow

For male contestants on University Challenge, a daring outfit usually means a knitted jumper, or forgoing a tie.

But with a pink and green polka dot bow in his hair and a garish multi-coloured shirt, Cambridge undergraduate Theo Howe, pictured, certainly broke the mould on Monday. His unconventional fashion choices caused quite a stir among viewers and saw delighted admirers heap praise on the Fitzwilliam College student on social media.

Within ten minutes of the programme starting, #Howe was trending on Twitter. one fan wrote: ‘I’ve never been so proud...More bows & brains on national telly please #Howe’.

But some were not so impressed, with many asking whether he had ‘lost a bet’. The bow proved to be a lucky charm, however, with Fitzwilliam victorious against Magdalen, oxford.
