THE warm waters of the Caribbean are a breeding ground for hurricanes, and Cuba is right in the line of fire. But while other islands and parts of America have been known to fall into confusion when a storm strikes, Cuba has a wellpracti­sed routine. THE COMPASS (BBC WORLD SERVICE, 1.30PM, 8.05PM) reports on a country that has a traditiona­lly low hurricane fatality rate.

THE folk singer Julie Fowlis is in the studio for today’s IN TUNE (RADIO 3, 5PM). Her voice has become familiar to millions after she sang songs in the Pixar film Brave. Julie (pictured) sings in Gaelic, a language that lends itself to music, and her voice is a delight to the ear.

THE spoof Scandi crime series ANGSTROM (RADIO 4, 6.30PM) takes us into a world of tight harmonies and tight satin with a plot about

the two faces of Benny from Abba. Someone is trying to frame Detective Knut Angstrom for the death of Councillor Birgid Lundstrom, and the metaphoric­al footprints in the snow lead straight to Benny’s door . . .

NILE RODGERS’ GOOD TIMES (RADIO 2, 10PM) looks back to the Seventies as the disco legend recalls working with Diana Ross. Nile talks about going to a club to find many a man dressed as Diana, inspiring him to write the hit I’m Coming Out For Ms Ross. He also shares memories of recording Let’s Dance with David Bowie — in one take.
