Brits held for ‘sexual dancing’ in Cambodia

- By Emily Kent Smith and Jaya Narain

FIVE British men have been charged in Cambodia over what officials have called pornographic dancing at a party.

They are accused of taking pictures of scantily clad couples in racy positions and sharing them on social media.

The five are among ten foreign nationals arrested in a raid by police at a villa in Siem Reap, near Angkor Wat – whose ancient temples draw tourists from across the globe.

The group were charged yesterday as prosecutors warned they could face a year behind bars for a ‘breach of Cambodian traditions’.

Police released images appearing to show clothed and laugh-

ing tourists, some in sexually suggestive positions, at the party before Thursday’s raid. Some 30 officers are believed to have stormed the venue in what is regarded as a crackdown on inappropriate behaviour.

The Britons’ ages range from 21 to 35. The five other detainees – including one woman – are from the Netherlands, Canada, Norway and New Zealand. Police later posted a picture of the ten defendants, but one of the group said they were confused because none of them featured in the alleged sexual pictures.

The party is believed to have been hosted by events group Let’s Get Wet, with tickets for £5 including a free drink.
