THIS IS WHAT 81 LOOKS LIKE
JUne AshDOwn is a retired business owner and lives in essex with her husband, Peter. They have one daughter, sasha, 51, and a granddaughter, Amber, 22.
GOODBYE GREY HAIR
I WILL never let my hair go grey! It was brown, but I’ve been colouring it blonde since I turned 30. The highlights brighten my face and a youthful style makes a difference. I’ve been having my hair cut at a Vidal Sassoon salon for more than 50 years. But I dye it with Nice’n Easy Permanent Colour in Natural Extra Light Beige Blonde.
NO MORE FACIALS
I WOULD rather invest in good-quality daily beauty products than a costly facial that lasts a few weeks. I’ve only had three in my lifetime. I use Lancome’s Advanced Genifique serum (£59, lancome.co.uk) to keep my skin hydrated. I then apply Clarins Tinted Moisturiser (£30, clarins.co.uk) instead of foundation, which would emphasise fine lines. I finish with Chanel Rouge Coco Shine lipstick (£28,
chanel.com) in Boy, a nude pink.
THREE-WEEK NAILS
EVERY three weeks, I visit my local salon for acrylic nail extensions. It costs £34, but my nails feel stronger. I love to feel pampered and ‘me time’ is important to de-stress — especially as I spend a lot of my week caring for my husband who had a stroke last year.
KITCHEN WORKOUT
I USED to work out to Jane Fonda’s fitness DVDs. However, I’ve now designed my own 30-minute routine, which I do in the kitchen — it’s helpful to hold on to the counter! I touch my toes, twist my upper body and swing my arms. It keeps me flexible and stops me getting back pain.
STAY GLAMOROUS
I OWNED a designer clothes shop for 32 years, so fashion is an important way for me to stay young. When I’m going out, I like to wear my heels and something from my collection of classic designer pieces, such as my YSL leopard print silk scarf. I spend as much time as possible with my granddaughter — she keeps me young!
