Great American Railroad Journeys, 6.30pm, BBC2 MICHAEL PORTILLO, armed only with his trusty Appleton’s guidebook, continues his American rail journey through the stunning landscapes of New England, en route to the Canadian border. His first stop is Burlington, Vermont, heart of the state’s billion-dollar logging industry. FORENSICS DRAMA Silent Witness, 9pm, BBC1 A NEW two-part story begins with Nikki (Emilia Fox, pictured) and Jack arriving at the scene of a crash, where a woman has died after losing control of her car. Attempts to trace her next of kin lead them to a residentia­l care home to which the victim made a monthly payment, and it soon becomes clear that the crash was no accident after all. COMPLEX THRILLER Next Of Kin, 9pm, STV MONA tries to make amends for her arrest by playing the good wife to impress husband Guy’s clients, but a phone call from Danny draws her back into the police operation. LOOKING FOR LOVE The Undateable­s, 9pm, Ch4 TOM, from Bridgend, is a male model, and while his looks mean he’s not short of attention, the 28-year-old has Tourette’s and Asperger’s, which can make him shy when speaking to girls. Can he find love in the final episode of this touching dating show. NEIGHBOURL­Y COMEDY Two Doors Down, 10pm, BBC2 ARABELLA WEIR and Doon Mackichan (pictured right with Kieran Hodgson) return for a third run of the sitcom set in a Glasgow suburb. The first episode finds the whisky flowing as the mismatched neighbours meet up for a fabulously

awkward Burns Night, involving a haggis mix-up, a rousing rendition of 500 Miles and a newly done up ‘wee downstairs loo’. FILM CHOICE A Life Of Deception, 3.15pm, Ch5 EMMANUELLE VAUGIER stars as Gabrielle, a mother whose life falls apart after her husband is involved in a kayaking accident. His body is never found, and as she begins to suspect he faked his own death, a tangled web of deception slowly reveals itself — and it seems someone is intent on framing her.
