Want a romantic Valentine’s dinner? Roll up to Greggs!

- By Sean Poulter Consumer Affairs Editor

ROSES, a tablecloth, candelabra, soft music, a glass of fizz…and a sausage roll.

If that sounds like the perfect Valentine’s Day for you and your other half, then you’re in luck.

Greggs the bakers is to offer Valentine’s four-course meals – including a glass of prosecco.

The starter will be a ‘composition of canapes’, including miniature sausage rolls, steak and blue cheese en croute, katsu tortilla wraps, a Mexican chicken chipotle spoon, a bechamel toasted honey-cured ham square and tomato gazpacho. The main will be a choice of Greggs’ puff pastry parcels such as a vegetable pasty or steak bake.

All will be baked to order and accompanied by oven-roasted spiced potato slices, as well as what Greggs describes as a ‘garnish of fresh Apollo and spinach leaves and sunblush tomatoes’.

The dessert is a brochette of miniature doughnuts paired with a rich butterscotch flavoured dipping sauce.

And all this is followed by petits fours, including Belgian dark chocolate brownies, raspberry and almond bites and caramel shortbread, as well as coffee.

A table for two will set you back £15, which is just £7.50 a head.

Just five shops are taking part – in Argyle Street, Glasgow, Stockwell, South London, Manchester’s City Tower, Grainger Street in Newcastle, and Cardiff’s Queen Street.

A spokesman said: ‘Instead of ordering at the till, diners will be waited on at their own tables…while classical music plays in the background.

‘Whether they’re on a first date or have been married for 0 years, we can guarantee it will be a night to remember.’
