The Old Ones … Neil and Vyvyan reunited
MORE than 35 years on, they are clearly no longer The Young Ones.
Indeed, Nigel Planer and Adrian Edmondson are barely recognisable as the long-haired paranoid hippy Neil and spiky-haired violence-loving punk Vyvyan they played in the anarchic, ground-breaking BBC sitcom.
The pair were reunited on stage on Sunday night for the Slapstick Festival at Bristol Old Vic. However, they were not there to celebrate The Young Ones, a comedy about four students sharing a squalid house that ran from 1982 to 1984 and also featured Rik Mayall as Rik and Christopher Ryan as Mike.
Although the show propelled them to fame, Edmondson, 61, and Planer, 64, reminisced instead about another project from the 1980s – the spoof heavy metal rock band Bad News.
Formed as part of The Comic Strip Presents series on Channel 4, it also starred Mayall, who died in 2014.
