My cooker is still hot stuff aged 90!

STILL going strong at 60, is this Britain’s oldest oven (Mail)? Sorry, it’s not! Our cooker, a New World Alpine series 2 gas cooker (right), is 90 and we use it every day. It was made in 1928 and still cooks as well as the day it was made. The thermostat is spot on. It was bought and used for 50-odd years by a lady in Coventry, but when she moved into a bungalow in 1980, she treated herself to a new cooker. Her vintage cooker was put on display in a gas showroom in Coventry among the new New World cookers as an example of their quality over the years. We bought it for our newly renovated cottage in 1985, and my lovely Jane has been using it ever since.
