Ross is backing ‘brilliant’ Gemmill

- MARK WILSON

RANGERS youngster Ross McCrorie believes Scot Gemmill could thrive if promoted to become Scotland manager — with the SFA board convening today to consider their next move. Under-21 coach Gemmill saw bookmakers’ odds on him succeeding Gordon Strachan slashed over the weekend after Michael O’Neill turned down the chance to leave Northern Ireland. ‘Scot Gemmill has been huge for me, right up through the age groups,’ said McCrorie. ‘He is someone who believes in you and that gives you greater confidence going into the game. ‘If he did get the Scotland job, it wouldn’t surprise me if he did well because he’s a brilliant coach.’ The SFA board will seek answers from chief executive Stewart Regan about his failed pursuit of O’Neill and formalise a strategy for the consideration of further candidates. Hibernian manager Neil Lennon admitted last week that he would be open to speaking to the governing body.
