VICTORIOUS DONS REGAIN SECOND TOP
ABERDEEN boss Derek McInnes last night hailed Freddie Woodman as ‘a fantastic young talent’ after completing the 20-year-old goalkeeper’s loan move from Newcastle United. Back-up Danny Rogers has stepped in after Joe Lewis was ruled out for the rest of the season, but McInnes has bolstered his options with Woodman (below) who made 15 appearances on loan for Kilmarnock last season and was part of England’s World Cup winning Under-20s team. ‘I thought he got better and better at Kilmarnock,’ said McInnes after last night’s 4-2 victory at Ross County. ‘There were lots of clubs in for Freddie but his commitment and word to us meant a lot and we’re looking forward to getting him in with us.’ McInnes, who also landed Carlisle striker Sam Cosgrove, 21, on a two-anda-half-year deal, was equally pleased with a win that edged the Dons ahead of Rangers in the battle for second place in the Premiership. ‘The movement from the front four was terrific and we were hands down on top of the game,’ he said. ‘We got the goals our dominance deserved. Kenny McLean was outstanding from start to finish and his goals will highlight his performance. ‘We took Gary (MackaySteven) and Niall (McGinn) off to give others opportunities and didn’t have the same flow to our game afterwards. But up until the 75th minute, I’ve got to be pleased. It was a real top performance.’ County boss Owen Coyle stressed it was ‘not acceptable’ to see his team lose three goals in a ‘crazy’ six-minute spell in the first half. ‘My disappointment was the reaction to going 1-0 down,’ said Coyle, whose team remain six points adrift at the bottom of the Premiership. ‘That’s the bit that annoyed and frustrated me. ‘We need to eradicate that and that starts on Saturday.’ Coyle last night drafted in 19-year-old Estonian international midfielder Mattias Kait on loan from Fulham.
