Yum or yuk? The Creme Egg pizza

- By George Odling

IT’S certainly not going to win him any Michelin stars, but one chef is seeing orders flood in for his latest creation – the Creme Egg pizza.

The 2,200-calorie gooey treat is the work of ice cream man Ricky Hughes.

It consists of a caramel flan base, topped with ice cream, caramel and warm Nutella sauces, chocolate shavings, sprinkles and several Cadbury’s Creme Eggs.

While not really a pizza it is served in a pizza box and, like the savoury version, can be cut into slices for sharing. Mr Hughes, who calls himself ‘Mr Ricky, Prince of Desserts’, whips them up in his ice cream van in Colwyn Bay, north Wales.

‘It’s by far our most popular creation, we are selling between ten and 15 every night,’ said the father-of-one, who added the £8 dessert to the menu three weeks ago.

‘The feedback has been great, lots of fivestar reviews online and customers coming back for more. Some love it so much they have been ordering three or four times a week.’ Mr Hughes, 28, said inspiration struck while he was picking up ingredients at the cash and carry.

‘I saw the flan base and just thought Creme Eggs would be something fun to add on top,’ he said.

‘We are always looking to expand our range to keep the customers coming back, and with the sweet pizza our customers can choose what they want for a topping, just like any other pizza. They can put Ferrero Rocher on top, Galaxy Caramel, whatever they want.’
