Body of soldier brought home

THE body of a Scots soldier who died in a traffic accident in Iraq has been returned to the UK. Captain Dean Sprouting, pictured, was serving at Al Asad Air Base when the accident happened on January 31. His body was repatriate­d to RAF Brize Norton, Oxfordshir­e, yesterday. The Ministry of Defence is investigat­ing his death.

Captain Sprouting was serving with Black Watch, 3rd Battalion, Royal Regiment of Scotland.

The father of two, from Denny, Stirlingsh­ire, joined the Army in 1989.

After his death his commanding officer, Lieutenant Colonel Rob Hedderwick, said: ‘His loss is keenly felt by us all and our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and children who I know he cherished more than anything in this world.’
