Freemason chief: Stop bashing us!
THE Freemasons have been discriminated against and are ‘undeservedly stigmatised’ in the media, the head of the secretive organisation has claimed.
The comments come after it was reported that two lodges for politicians and journalists are operating within the halls of Westminster.
In response, Dr David Staples took out full page adverts in yesterday’s Times, Daily Telegraph and Guardian stating that ‘Enough Is Enough’.
Dr Staples said the United Grand Lodge of England had raised £33million for charity last year and embraced all types of people. He wrote: ‘As an organisation we welcome individuals from all walks of life, of any race, faith age, class or political persuasion.’
He added he has contacted the Equality and Human Rights Commission over recent media reports, and said lodges across the UK will be hosting question and answer sessions for the public to learn more about the organisation.
