Patient buys a chemo pump... for £175 on eBay
WHEN Steve Brewer was told his hospital couldn’t afford the best chemotherapy machines, he looked for one himself.
The cancer patient logged on to eBay – and found a £3,400 pump for only £175. Since buying it, he has found six more for about £100 each.
Mr Brewer said: ‘There must be loads of these second-hand machines. It could save hospitals hundreds of thousands.’
The 62-year-old grandfather from Peterborough, pictured, was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2014 and has undergone 25 rounds of chemotherapy, which is keeping the disease at bay.
Linda Nkhata, Peterborough City Hospital’s chemotherapy day unit manager, said she was ‘incredibly grateful’ for Mr Brewer’s intervention, adding: ‘To have seven of them donated has made such a difference.’
