How are you getting on driving in the snow? Not great actually, mum

- By Blair Meikle

IT was perhaps not the response her mother expected after asking how her teenage daughter was coping with driving in the snow.

But Amy Emslie decided honesty was the best policy as she responded to her mother’s text with a picture of her car lying on its roof in a field.

The 17-year-old, who only recently passed her test, skidded on ice and came off the road.

Thankfully, the schoolgirl from Inverurie, Aberdeenshire, was unhurt apart from a few bruises.

Shortly after the accident her mum texted to ask: ‘How are you getting on driving in the snow?’

Amy responded with two pictures of her written-off Vauxhall Corsa and the message: ‘Not great actually, mum.’ The crash happened as Amy was driving to school. She said: ‘My mum had been on holiday so I hadn’t told her about the crash.

‘It was ironic when she texted me asking how my driving had been getting on. I hadn’t realised how icy the roads were.

‘As I was going round a corner I hit ice. It felt like it was going in slow motion. I just was thinking how much I wanted it to stop.’
