Hospital calls off ops over cracks in theatre walls

- By Kate Foster Scottish Health Editor

A HOSPITAL has cancelled all planned operations after cracks were found on theatre walls during building work.

Routine surgery at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness, has been halted ‘until further notice’.

Dozens of procedures were cancelled there last month over dust contamination which occurred during renovations.

Last night NHS Highland apologised for the latest disruption and said patients with urgent problems would be prioritised.

Emergency operations will continue to go ahead, but routine operations will not resume until next week and some patients may be sent to other hospitals instead.

The construction work is part of a theatre upgrade. NHS Highland said there were concerns about ‘superficial cracks’ on some operating theatre walls.

Ron Coggins, surgical division clinical director at Raigmore, said: ‘We are examining all theatre capacity across Highland and are also in discussions with NHS Grampian and others to see how they may assist.

‘We are truly sorry for the disruption and concerns this will have on our patients across Highland.’
